Sardines

The sea brought the Romans here to build their port and this has been a fishing area since antiquity. On weekends, we’d go down to the port to buy fish just landed by the fishing boats. We mainly bought sardines, as they are nutritious, easy to cook and cannot be farmed. The perfect way to savour this landscape, anchored between sea and mountains, is with a sardine barbecue on olive wood and a glass of local red wine. My children love the sea, the beach, water activities and sailing, but unfortunately they hate sardines! Well, more for me...
