Bringing connection, creativity and joy to people experiencing isolation — through shared multisensory travel experiences.
We all grow older. But no one should feel alone.
In the UK, millions of older adults experience loneliness, particularly those living with disability or reduced mobility. Opportunities to connect, play, and be creative are often limited — especially in care settings or rural communities.
Tabletop Travels exists to change that.
We create facilitated, multisensory “travel” experiences that bring people together around a table — sparking imagination, conversation and connection.
Based in Bristol, we’re a non-profit organisation founded on the mission of bringing the joy and discovery of travel to those who can’t
Our research-backed multisensory boxes combat loneliness in older people. Local guides curate authentic cultural items from popular destinations, delivering meaningful experiences that reduce isolation through sensory engagement
Our boxes awaken cherished memories through taste, smell, and play while building digital confidence. We work with local voluntary partners to deliver boxes where they are most needed
How We Make A Difference
Dr Helen Manchester - Professor of Participatory Sociodigital Futures, University of Bristol
‘‘Our research shows that creative and cultural experiences can significantly enhance wellbeing and reduce isolation as we age. Co-designed with older adults, this product enables meaningful engagement with the world through sensory, story-evoking activities, even when travel becomes difficult’’
